MISSION STATEMENT
THE MISSION OF WASECA COUNTY HUMAN SERVICES IS TO SERVE INDIVIDUALS AND
FAMILIES IN ACHIEVING OR MAINTAINING THEIR FULL POTENTIAL FOR
SELF-SUFFICIENCY.
Waseca County Human Services is the county’s public welfare and
social services agency. The department has 23 employees with the primary
functions of the units being income maintenance, social services, and
child support.
Income Maintenance
The Income Maintenance programs include Minnesota Family Investment
Program (MFIP), Food Support (formerly known as Food Stamps), Medical
Assistance, Group Residential Housing, General Assistance, and some
emergency funding. Persons who wish to apply may call the front desk at
507/835-0560 or stop by the office to request an application. The
receptionist will arrange any necessary appointments. Persons should
expect to supply proof of identity, income and assets. Your financial
worker can explain the rules to you. Each working day, an intake worker is
available to answer questions and assist with emergencies. Currently 7
income maintenance workers under the supervision of the Financial Services
Supervisor, provide a full range of income maintenance services to
eligible persons in Waseca County.
Child Support
Child support staff provide for establishing paternity, court orders,
and modification of court orders. Waseca County cooperates with all
interstate court ordered withholding. Persons who are applying for
assistance programs will be automatically referred to the Child Support
Unit for services. Any individual needing the services of the child
support unit can apply for service by paying a nominal fee. The child
support unit consists of three (3) Child Support Officers under the
supervision of the Financial Services Supervisor.
Social Services
Our Social Services staff works in the areas of Child Protection,
Child Welfare, Mental Retardation/Related Conditions, Mental Health
Intake, and Services to disabled, Adult Protection, Minor Parents, Sliding
Fee Child Care, and Licensing. The Social Service Unit consists of 6 social
workers and 1 paraprofessional with one supervisor for the unit. We
contract with Public Health for services to the elderly and chemical
dependency services are provided through an arrangement with the Court
Services Department.
Waseca County is also served by Mental Health Case Managers who are
employed through the South Central Mental Health Center. We are also a
participant in the Waseca County Collaborative for Families, which
provides additional prevention and intervention services.
Each working day an intake worker is available to answer questions and
to provide referrals to appropriate agencies.
After Hours Emergencies
In the event of an after hours emergency, call the Waseca County
Sheriff Dispatch at 1-507/835-0505. For Mental Health Emergencies, after
hours, please call the 24 hour mental health line, 1-507/455-8100.
SUPPORT SERVICES
Two (2) clerical staff, one (1) fiscal officer, and a Director support
our various units.
