Mission Statement

The mission of Waseca County Human Services is to serve individuals and families in achieving or maintaining their full potential for self sufficiency.

Overview
Waseca County Human Services is the county’s public welfare and social services agency. The department has three separate units, whose functions are income maintenance, social services, and child support. Two clerical staff, one fiscal officer, and a director support our various units.

Income Maintenance
The Income Maintenance Unit programs include:

  • Emergency Funding
  • Food Support (formerly known as Food Stamps)
  • General Assistance
  • Group Residential Housing
  • Medical Assistance
  • Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP)

Persons who wish to apply may call the front desk at (507) 835-0560 or stop by the office to request an application. The receptionist will arrange any necessary appointments. Persons should expect to supply proof of identity, income, and assets. Your financial worker can explain the rules to you. Each working day, an intake worker is available to answer questions and assist with emergencies. Our Income Maintenance Unit has two sections that handle all income maintenance cases, a family bank and a singles bank.

Child Support
Child Support staff provide for establishing paternity, court orders, and modification of court orders. Waseca County cooperates with all interstate court-ordered withholding. Persons who are applying for assistance programs will be automatically referred to the Child Support Unit for services. Any individual needing the services of the Child Support Unit can apply for service by paying a nominal fee.

Social Services
Our Social Services staff works in the areas of child protection, child welfare, mental retardation / related conditions, mental health intake, services to the disabled, adult protection, minor parents, sliding fee child care, and licensing. We contract with Public Health for services to the elderly. Chemical dependency services are provided through an arrangement with the Court Services Department.

Waseca County is also served by mental health case managers who are employed through the South Central Mental Health Center. We are also a participant in the Waseca County Collaborative for Families, which provides additional prevention and intervention services.
Each working day an intake worker is available to answer questions and to provide referrals to appropriate agencies.
