Sandbags Available for Flooding

Sandbag Image

Flooding continues to be a problem during this rain and spring thaw. The Office of Emergency Management along with County and City staff continue to have sandbags and sand available at no cost to residents that reside within Waseca County, including the cities of Janesville, New Richland, Waldorf, and Waseca.

Sand bags and sand (up to 50 per visit) will be available at the Temporary Waseca County Solid Waste and Recycling site located at the Waseca County Fairgrounds. Residents are required to bring their own shovels, man power, and transportation for sandbags and are asked to use the 3rd Street NE entrance at the fairgrounds.  Residents can only bag up to 50 bags per visit due to the large demand and wait times.  Residents can also arrange their own sand delivery and can stop and pick up bags as needed.  The hours of operation for this site are Mon-Fri; 7-3:30pm and Saturday 7-12pm.

Proper disposal of the sand and sandbags is the homeowner’s responsibility.  Instructions for disposal will be available in the near future.

If you have further questions or are in need of larger quantities (over 50 bags) or in need of sand delivery, contact information can be obtained by calling Waseca County Emergency at (507) 835-0690 or email e.m@co.waseca.mn.us.
